About

Hello All,

About Me

I am a young Singaporean in his mid-20s, A-level holder, have been working in the aviation industry since completing full time NS. Married and currently staying in our own HDB apartment. Both my wife and myself work full time.

This Blog

The purpose of this blog is to document as well as share with others on the journey to financial freedom. I started my journey in 2013, with the objective of reaching the dividend crossover point by my early 30s.

Title-wise, I see dividends, distributions, coupon payments and other alternative streams of income as a runway, on which the airliner of financial freedom takes off. Cheesy as it may sound, but it's an awesome image I would like to project here :D

Financial History

No prior formal education in anything finance related. Since starting work until buying a house, I was blissfully unaware of anything finance related. Money to me was something you earn for your labour, and you either spend it or save it. Only when buying our house, having to read up about interest rates and all opened my eyes to a whole new world, of inflation, compounding interest and the like, and started to read more about personal finance.

Took the lazy way out initially and settled for a regular premium ILP. However after reading more and more, found out that I was getting the bad end of a deal, and bit the bullet and pulled out of it, and lost ~$4k due to surrendering it early.

Soon after, I decided to come up with a plan to be financially free by my early 30s, primarily by starting early and investing long term in stocks and bonds to provide alternate streams of income, and to be able to meet all our expenses (asides from mortgage payments) by then, so that we will be able to ease into jobs which are more enjoyable, fulfilling and less time-consuming, while being able to spend more time with our family and friends.

The journey has been great so far, and at the time of writing (31/08/2014), the portfolio is generating approximately S$450 monthly.

Thank you all for popping by this little corner of the internet. And for those who are on similar journeys, press on, and may the odds be ever in our favour :D

I realise we share similar goals and background! Since you are probably a good couple of years younger than me, you got married really early too!

Good luck in your financial journey and enjoy the marital bliss at the same time too!
